To Know Jesus and Make Him Known

Our History

St. Paul’s Church is a PEARUSA church plant birthed out of All Saints Church, Pawleys Island, S.C.

On Pentecost Sunday 2014, St. Paul’s Church celebrated its two-year birthday. How did we get here and what is our story?

After much prayer and discernment of God’s call to plant a church in Greenville, SC, my family and I moved in August 2011 to begin “Come and See” meetings in the home of some good friends. Realizing that no one involved had ever planted a church, we spent time studying how God began the church.

In mid-December, the Holy Spirit nudged me to pay a visit to a small downtown Baptist church. A door opened and there before me was a fit, bright-eyed, hospitable 82 year-old saint. While sharing that the Lord had sent me, this godly man said, “We’ve been praying for you!”

As only the Holy Spirit can do, a kindred relationship was cultivated between a small group of Baptists and a small group of Anglicans. Over the next year, the Lord spoke to our new friends in a profound way. On March 15th, 2013, they transferred the deed from Second Baptist Church to St. Paul’s Church.

We have marked that day in the life of St. Paul’s as Heritage Sunday. We tell the story and mark the moment just as the Lord told Joshua to mark the moment when the Israelites crossed into the Promised Land. St. Paul’s testimony is of the Lord’s goodness and faithfulness. The tangible miracle that reminds us of his goodness is the property. The real miracle that reminds us of his faithfulness is the unity in spirit between the Baptists and Anglicans.

I have seen real transformation in those the Lord has called to St. Paul’s. I have witnessed the love of Jesus birthed in ministries. I have heard stories of healing. I have celebrated the seeds of faith growing in young children. I have worshipped with the broken, the lost and the least.

What would cause a 53 year-old priest, wife, and 16 year-old daughter to move from Pawleys Island, SC to Greenville, SC?
A passion for the Gospel and an intense love for Jesus. Trusting him with our lives.

I ask for your prayers as St. Paul’s continues to follow the cloud by day and the fire by night. Come and see!

Faithfully In Christ,
T Brown, Rector
